Rise Gala

About project

OneWest Events asked for our help visualizing their extraordinary ideas for their client's private gala at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of British Columbia's landscapes, the event merges a lush forest aesthetic with a modern edge. Graphic design played a vital role in OneWest's ability to tell a uniquely Canadian story. We first worked with the OneWest team in 2018 to create some initial artist renderings of how some installations could look. A year later, we produced many of the final print-ready graphics for installation at the time of the event.

Renderings to reality

"Rising earth pods" wow guests upon entry with a unique forest essence. The 28-foot tall custom old-growth tree graphics delivered a high-impact entrance experience and cascaded down to a 16-foot platform of soft seating surrounded by faux grass.

A statement-making megabar and triangular tree fort stage captured guests' attention. The initial idea for the 54ft wide bar was to vinyl wrap it with natural forest imagery, but later changed to a thematic mountainscape design. Inspired by natural elements of the West Coast, the mountain graphics layered visual patterns of British Columbia jade and ocean waves.

The photo feature area added another unique layer of entertainment and contributed to the transformation of the event space. Four scenes provided guests with a "choose your own adventure" photo booth experience.

The food stations played an integral role in the event. They were strategically positioned to circulate guests throughout the space, and the bold and straightforward sign design allows for easy wayfinding.

Inspired by the trending concepts of live-edge epoxy resin tables, we created custom tabletop graphics using open-source map data of various British Columbia rivers and lakes. Each tabletop was labelled with a subtle word-burn effect to provide additional context.

We also created the graphics for this 170-foot expansive old-growth forest backdrop using a 58-megapixel panoramic photo. We interpolated the image up to the required size and tiled it into 22 individual files for print on separate pieces of fabric drapery
